What is Xbox LIVE?

The Xbox 360, the latest version of Microsoft’s video game console, has an online component called Xbox LIVE that allows users in different locations to play each other.

It can also be used to send video or text messages, to download TV shows or movies.

More than 11.6 million Xbox 360 consoles have been sold across the 37 countries where they are available. Xbox LIVE is available in 25 countries across the globe.

Faster than expected, Xbox LIVE has eclipsed the 7 million member milestone and is on track to reach 10 million members by June 2008. Microsoft estimates it adds a new member every 8 seconds.

Gamefly Video Game Rental: It’s Like Netflix for Your Kids (or the kid in you)

Posted on Wednesday 30 May 2007

If you are into video games and haven’t check out Gamefly yet, what are you waiting for? Gamefly has a HUGE library of games for all systems that are brought right to your door. How many times have you gone to the video store hoping they have the game you want in stock, only to see all of the copies checked out? Frustrating isn’t it? That doesn’t happen with Gamefly. You get the games you want all of the time…when you want them.

Yes, you have to wait for them to be delivered, but isn’t that better than spending $5.00 on gas driving to and from the store only to come back empty handed? Or worse, getting a game you really didn’t want, but feel you have to play to justify spending $8.00 on the rental. Been there, done that, never doing it again.
Gamefly is currently running a special 10 day free trial. You can check out 2 games for 10 days and see how you like the service. Not your cup of tea? Return the games and cancel the service. Worse case, you or your kids get 10 days to play two games at no cost.

I’ve been thrilled with the service ever since I joined. Even for $21.95 a month, my kids and I can have 2 games out at anytime for as long as we want. If it takes them 2 days or 2 weeks to complete the game, it doesn’t matter. They are happy and I am too. Going on a trip to the beach for a week or two? Get a couple of games from Gamefly to take with you. When you come back, send them back and get 2 more. Just make sure you clean the sand off first.

If you rent 3 or more games a month from the local video store or want to make sure your kids will like a game before you drop $50 on it, you owe it to yourself to give Gamefly a try. It’s saved me some money on bad games and brought nothing but joy to my kids.
