Educational Video Games To Replace Books In Some Classrooms

Professor Sasha Barab of the University of Indiana is one of many developers who is creating alternative video games that can teach as well as entertain.

Far from the blood bath titles we adults tend to enjoy, the games to be released into the education system will be of a more intellectual problem-solving nature.

Example:

One game being developed allows players to assume the role of investigators who are tasked to discover why fish are dying at a local park.

It’s clear that not only will such games be meant to teach creative thinking, but also to educate young people on important issues that effect current enviornmental and political theatres.

Personally I think it’s not only cool, but a logical next step. After all, the military uses high tech video games to train their people how to kill people in third world countries, why not use the same technology to teach the younger generation to use logic, and to give them multiple perspectives on current issues?
