Project SnowBlind Rocks… Until the End

I recently got around to finishing up Project Snowblind. What an amazing first-person shooter!

The graphics are very slick, the action is fluid, and the weapon and combat options… absolutely incredible! There are a ton of different firearms and bio enhancements to choose from during game play, and every combat situation can be approached from a variety of strategic angles.

The story line is ok; nothing revolutionary but enough to sustain your interest. However I admit the cut scenes are about as lame as a low-budget 80’s action flick.

The short version of the plot is this:

You play a soldier named Nathan Frost, who serves as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Liberation Coalition Army. The action starts in Hong Kong, where you enter your first battle with troops of the evil Republic.

After sustaining near-fatal injuries in this first battle, you are taken into a top secret bio-augmentation program and transformed into a super soldier. Imagine the bionic man meets robocop or something along those lines… only with far more options.

As a super enhanced warrior, you have access to a slew of great abilities like ballistic shielding, x-ray vision, invisibility, and even the ability to fire lightning blasts from your hands. The only drawback is the fact that you are highly susceptible to EMP grenades, which your enemies employ on a regular basis.

As mentioned previously, you can obtain and utilize an incredible arsenal of hardware in this game. All the basics are there, from the pistol you never bother using, to the trusty assault rifle, shotgun, and rocket launcher. And there are many new and interesting weapons, such as shoulder-fired rail cannons and spider-bots.

The game aslo allows for a good deal of interaction with props and the enviornment. You can hack security systems to deactivate alarms or turn automated defenses against your foes, plus there are a few vehicles you can leverage for greater speed and firepower.

Overall, this game is a great run. It’s heavy on the action, provides a nice challenge, and doesn’t involve a lot of boss battles (I grew out of boss battles in the 90’s…. they’re so Nintendo don’t you think?).

The only drawbacks in my opinion are the horribly cheesy cut scenes and the final mission. I won’t give away the ending, but I will say I felt a little jilted by the way things played out.

Despite the flawed close, Project Snowblind is very much worth a few bucks and a little of your time. If you haven’t already knocked this one out, get on it today.
