Video Games as Treatment for ADHD?

Recent studies have indicated that video games can be an effective form of therapy for ADHD, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

To be frank, I think ADHD is over-diagnosed, even slapped on like a convenient label these days.

A kid doesn’t like school, must be ADHD.

Doesn’t get along with others? ADHD.

Fidgets in church? ADHD.

Just hit em’ with some Riddlin and send em’ down the road.

Ok rant aside, Dr. Margaret MacDonald, an ADHD specialist in San Jose California firmly belives that playing video games is a good way to help kids focus. She is currently treating children with a ’smart brian games’ system, which combines brain wave monitoring, biofeedback and video games.

The objective of this system is to alter brain waves patterns and promote focus.

Dr. MacDonald says: “If they don’t do the right thing then they can’t steer, and they’ll crash and eventually the brain will keep trying to do what it has to do to succeed in the game.”

Some of her patients are already completely off of their ADHD medications.
